Dating from the early 12th century, originally built by the Knights Templar as a fortification, the chateau is positioned on an elevation, giving excellent panoramas.
It now has over 840 years of history, including the celebrations of a past King's coronation, attack during the revolution to capture the Marquis owner, King Louis XIV offering the chateau as a love token to his mistress who bore him 5 children, to the hiding hundreds of Jewish children during WWII, to name but a few.
The chateau’s main entrance is from the West Terrace after passing through the long tree lined avenue, cutting through the grounds of nearly 9 acres with original battlements. Built originally over a large vaulted cellar and castle kitchens, underground dungeon and corridor.
The entrance hall houses the exception granite staircase, which will not fail to impress. It also leads to four very large renovated reception rooms, with ornate fireplaces, thick stone walls, beamed ceilings, tall doors leading to the south veranda and the south façade; The defense tower with a carved Fleur de Lis in honor of the members of the French Royal family who have resided at the chateau. To the east of the chateau, a 17th century, 3-floor spiral staircase, used by the staff to reach the two floors above from the kitchen.
The chateau also includes:
1st Floor: Eight bedrooms with bathrooms, created with relatively recent partitions to provide maximum sleeping arrangements, when the Chateau was previously run commercially, there is capacity for this floor to be remodeled if required.
2nd Floor: Fully renovated, self-contained 3-bedroom apartment with open-plan kitchen/diner/living space, bathroom and 3 further bedrooms requiring modernisation.
Outside is an immaculate, successful Gîte with 5* reviews.
A detached 13-bedroom coach house, over 3-floors requiring complete internal modernisation.
To the East side, a small detached chapel, large indoor ménage, barn and stables.
To the South face, a terrace veranda with access to the walled garden via the horseshoe double stone steps dating from the 19th century.
A rare example of an authentic Templar Chateau. Mostly restored, with an excellent Income potential.
